Computer freeze up while scrolling
Hi I am new here. I am having trouble with my computer freezing up while scrolling a page. when it happens nothing works, keyboard, mouse, nothing. The only way to escape is to turn off the power to the computer. when I restart it sometimes I get a screen that tells me how to restart my active desktop, but not always.
Anyone seen this problem before? I could sure use some help. Thanks

Welcome.
Is this a new problem?
What is the make and model of the computer?
What you describe is in general your graphics card locking up or freezing.
Do you know what graphics card you are using?
This could be caused by a bad driver; a bad program; or perhaps heat.
The active desktop is most likely just a result of windows not closing properly.

Yes, It started about a month ago. could not do a system restore. Down loaded the latest driver ,no change. This is an Emachine T1140. The spec list says it has a Intel Direct AGP3D (810eshared) Video.
does this help?

yes i believe that is the one.

at first i thought maybe this would be a RAM issue but upon further research i found that is might be your registry that is causing this. try this and get back to us. First, go to the start menu, next go to run and type sfc /scannow
this stands for system file checker. try this and see if it works

I just ran that as your suggested. It took awhile and when finished it closed and did not tell me if if found or fixed anything. Is that normal?
-
Yes that is how it works. It verifies and fixes what it finds.
I don't think it is a Windows issue however.
If it were it would throw errors.
There is nothing in the registry that would affect this.
Freeze ups are generally: hardware / drivers / heat.
How often does this happen?
Did you uninstall your previous driver before installing the new? If not you should.
View your Task Manager and see what the CPU usage is.
Press: Ctrl + Alt + Delete or right click the bottom task bar to open the Task Manager.
Also check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.
Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:

It happens about every other time I'm on the computer. I dont know how else to say that.
How do I remove the old driver?

Did you check your temperatures and your CPU usage?
Did you check your Event Viewer?
For the driver try looking in the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and look for Intel drivers and choose remove. If further prompted choose Display drivers only.
If Intel drivers are not listed there then go to the Device Manager (right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager)
Click the + next to Display Adapters
Double click the Intel device and then click Driver then Uninstall.
