    Hello,
i applied for your help some time back, but for family help reasons was not able to jmplement your advice. i have now put your advice into practice and have a partial success. I seem to have got rin of my RAID config. and have my original drive working on SATA !, but when I connect my new drive to SATA " the machine won't boot. It says that it can't find a hard drive. but when i disconnect the new drive all is OK again.
I just hope i have replied in the dight place, so I hope to hear from you again.

I am not sure what you mean by SATA ! & SATA "

I will assume these are different SATA channels? Such as SATA 0 or SATA 1 or SATA 2 etc.

One thing to check is in your BIOS for the hard drive Boot Menu.

Verify that your hard drive with XP installed is listed as the first boot channel.

Also again verify that the RAID controller is disabled in the BIOS.

    Hello again,
I should have edited my message!
My motherboard has two SATA RAID sockets and two SATA sockets. the HD was connected to SATA RATD 1. Now I have managed to make it work connected to SATA 1, after following your instructions.
The RAID controller has been disabled. The BIOS has always puzzled me as from the beginning it didn't detect any hard drives, but seeing that everything worked I ignored it.
Back to the main problem! I connected the second HD to SATA 2 and that is when the computer couldn't find any HD and wouldn't boot. No hard drive was listed in the BIOS boot priority. After disconnecting the second drive, all was well again.
Thank you for your quick response and I apologise for not correcting my spelling.
    Jonowyke.
