    Consistant Blue Screen

    Hi there,

I am having a great deal of trouble with my laptop, a while ago now the battery ran out and the computer turned itself off, with out the correct shut down procedures. When I tried to turn it back on, it started to load and the blue screen appeared. After this continued for a while, I tried starting it up in safe mode, so I could recover files and reinstall windows. However, it even blue screened before safe mode has loaded. I've also tried putting the XP CD into the computer and booting from that, unfortunatley the dreaded blue screen appeared again.

I despirately need the information on the hard disk and have a USB hard disk to transfer it, but does anybody have any idea how I might go about recoving the data. The computer is a DELL. if that helps.

I have access to another DELL laptop and a stand alone, don't know if this will help. Any help/ideas would be appriciated, if anyone reads this and is not able to help but able to offer some apathy that would also be welcomed.

    Regards
    James

    Right,
You can recover your pc using the windows recovery console, but if you want to get your files off and reinstall i would suggest booting to linux.
To boot to linux you need a live cd, i would recommend knoppix (can be downloaded here: http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirro.../dist/knoppix/)

    Thanks,
    Seywar.

Sounds very much like a hardware problem.

You can remove your hard drive and either put it in an external enclosure or use an adapter to connect internally on a desktop in order to extract your data.

    Example here:
