Hi,
After doing a repair install for Win XP, 3 of my USB ports don't work now. I plug anything on them, it doesn't become detected, even thumb drives. I'm not sure should I post this in Win XP or Hardware forum??
Second thing is after the repair install I managed to install all Win Xp updates except these 3 which always keep failing, how can I install them?
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (KB929300)
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 and Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 1 (KB933579)
Desktop or Laptop?
Are all ports on the motherboard or do you have an add-in (PCI) USB card as well?
Does Device Manager report any problems with the ports?
Have you loaded your motherboards chipset drivers?
What is the make and model number of your motherboard (or your machine if it's proprietary ie; Gateway 310S)
Re: Updates - is there an error message, such as 80070003, 800A01AD, etc?

If this is no help, see if anything here applies;

Desktop.
all ports on the motherboard, i got no add-in (PCI) USB card.
Device Manager mentions nothing.
Have you loaded your motherboards chipset drivers?
How do i do that? or do mean just normal driver re-install?
Asus P5ND2 SLI
for the updates, no error msg
btw 3 out of 8 usb ports not working
Chipset latest drivers;

(last one = Chipset (XP 32bit))
Check this MSKB article;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900/en-us
ok about the Win updates:
(KB936181)
(KB933579)
(KB929300)
they all have the same Error Code: 0x64C
I'll check those updates to see what they are/relate to, but for error codes, I was looking for something more along the lines of;
The first two are updates for - Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0
You should read;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936181/en-us
The second is pretty well identical, perform the steps outlined (manual download/install), follow the same steps to manually download/install the second.
The last one (KB929300) pertains to - Microsoft .NET Framework
This is supposed to provide;
• Easier installation of commercial applications
Many commercial applications from Microsoft and from third-party companies rely on the .NET Framework to support their core functionality. If you have the .NET Framework installed, commercial applications are easier to install.
• Easier updates
After the .NET Framework is installed, it is updated automatically by the Microsoft Update service. If you receive Automatic Updates through Control Panel, any versions of the .NET Framework that are installed on the computer will always be up to date with the latest service packs.
There's three important links at the bottom. General Info, Downloading the packages, and how to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and whether service packs have been applied.

If your Chipset driver is not V7.13, then grab the latest driver.
Chipset Drivers; (Click the UTILITIES Tab, Select Win XP in the Operating System box, then the very bottom of the page - nVidia Chipset Driver V7.13 for Windows 2000/XP(WHQL)/2003)

This is a 35+ MB zip file. Download and unzip to an empty directory (Folder). Navigate to the folder and run SETUP.)
I found the download to be very very slow. About thirty minutes or so on Broadband (Cable). Since I downloaded it and have it, I've copied the downloaded file to here;
http://www.d-a-l.com/dan/C19DXV713_2KXP03.zip You might get better download speed from this link.
Please advise when you have the file so I can remove it from the D-A-L FTP site and free the server space.
