my family says im not allowed to use windows messenger as it messes up the e-mails (outlook express)

does it actually do anything
coz to be honest i know way more then my family does about computers and im 13

There is a setting in Outlook Express to start Windows Messenger when Outlook Express is opened.

This setting can be turned off.

There are also settings within Windows Messenger to start Windows Messenger when Windows starts.

These can also be turned off.

With all these settings off you just turn it on when you want to.

As to having any adverse affect on Outlook Express I have never heard of that.

There might be other reasons for them not wanting you to use a Messenger program.

In Outlook Express: Tools > Options > General

Untick: Automatically logon to Windows Messenger


In Windows Messenger: Tools > Options > Preferences > General

Untick: Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts
