    Re: Changing owner

    yes Malcolm is my dad.

I can't find the bookmarks anywhere, is there somewhere else they are likely to be? Have tried searching for anything with url but can't find anything, is there a way of searching for this file type?
    Thanks loads

Are you using IE 6 or 7? If IE 7 click the + star and try the Import/Export tool.

The files should be in the location I posted. If you put .url into search and search all files and folders and check show hidden and system etc. they should show up.

    ===================================

Anyway if you want to change the name:

Reboot the computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on the Welcome Screen (may have to do it twice) and then log into the Administrator account.

This is the "built-in" admin account. You should only use it to make changes like this. Do not use this account on a regular basis.

OK once in this account create a new administrator account that will become your account.

    Then delete Malcolm.

Understand that this will delete your present account as well as you are now tied to Malcolm. So if you want to save settings and or data etc. you need to do this first.

If you need more info on how to do this please ask.

Otherwise the above will establish you as the administrative user of this computer and the name will be yours.

its mozilla firefox and have tried searching using .url but it finds nothing on the old drive, are they usually stored on the data drive or the same one as he program files as the old computer had 2 seperate drives?

When you say I will lose all data etc, does that mean all files such as word docs etc?
    Thanks

OK I was assuming IE. Firefox's Bookmarks are going to be in the Program File for Firefox. I don't use it so I can't be much help here. I'd suggest starting a new thread on this issue in the Internet section. Someone else should be able to help you there.

As to data yes you will create a brand new account and if you delete Malcolm you will lose all data in that account.

There are ways to save and transfer this data. If you are going to do this then let us know and we can show you the options.

You can also create a new admin account for yourself and leave Malcolm and just login to your new account when you want the name to change etc.

This will only reflect on new work created in your new account however.

Hmm think I need to talk to my Dad or brother to sort it out so I don't go wrong as they know a lot more than me!

As to the bookmarks, its not quite right that is firefox, this computer has firefox but the bookmarks will be from when I used IE on the old computer so all a bit confusing really! I could really do with finding the bookmarks on the old drive but can't seem to locate them anywhere so beginning to think they were in an unusual place on the last computer as seems to be the story when it comes to that one! lol
    Cheers

In both IE and Firefox there is an Import/Export tool.

This is the best way to transfer Favorites/Bookmarks.

Yes I've found that, but the problem I'm having is locating where the bookmark files have been stored on the old drive as they are not to be found in the usual place, there is no folder named favourites under my user name on the old drive, driving me crazy trying to locate them!
