Little 2x2 Internet Explorer Box will not go away!

For about 9 months now, I have had this little "Phantom" Internet explorer window on my desktop that is fully functional (including bottom and side scroll), but there is no way for me to actually close the little box! No Red X, no "close" option when I right click, nothing... Can anyone help?? It's driving me nuts!

Can you post a screen shot?

    Or quote the window verbatim?

Why do you think it is IE?

I am unable to upload the screenshot - I guess the file is too big for this program? Can I send it to you via email or something?

Yo answer your other question, I am just guessig its IE because it has popped up Yahoo (my homepage) within the box.

You can resize it with any photo editor or use Faststone and only shoot the window in question.

    http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm

If it is an IE window then try the Task Manager to shut it down:

Press: CTRL + ALT + Delete then Task Manager then Processes then iexplore.exe and "End Process".

Also if it keeps starting go to start Run... msconfig | Startup and if iexplore.exe is set to start uncheck it. On reboot tell the diagnostic pop up not to show again.

I tried the Task manager instructions... to no avail. The little box is still on my screen haunting me...

Did you close all instances of iexplore.exe?

If this started 9 months ago then some program (known or unknown) must have started it. Perhaps a Toolbar program or who knows what.
If it had just started there are restore options but not for 9 months save reloading XP from scratch.

Otherwise we can try to locate the source but you'd have to run some scans.

Also a screenshot would help. Use Faststone to just picture this window and attach it to a post.

If you want to start a scanning process see this post:
