Well, long time since i updated it but i was going to start a new thread and realised i could still use this thread i suppose, as it has all the background story to whats happening now...

Well as i said in the previous post i got my card an RMA, got sent a new upgraded one (8800GTS 320mb to 640mb upgrade) and started playing games with it etc, installed the new drivers, deleted the old ones before hand etc etc. after about 3 weeks, my PC rebooted on the first day of when i got Age of Conan.

Now i thought this might have been it overheating again slightly so i came back on and quickly checked the temps, temps were under average so i loaded the game up again, had the temps up still and under load the temps were still absolutely fine...

so i started playing again, after 5 minutes bam, pc reboot...came back on and after 5 minutes again bam reboot...

it kept doing this every time i loaded up the game so i tried another game...reboot aswell...

so i thought they had sent me another faulty card, so i RMA'ed it and after about 1 week i was sent a new one as it was proven to be faulty. Now this is where i am, i got the new card, installed it properly. etc etc, and it was running fine for about 1 week. and now it is rebooting every 5 minutes just like the last one...same symptoms and such.

and just to clarify i have ran Memtest, Prime95 and harddisk diagnostic tool or whatever its called on my pc :P and everything else is FINE.

it is 100% the graphic card going faulty, as my 6600 can run in the pc fine and has done for whenever these 8800's break. ive had no problems with the 6600 aswell...

so yeah, sorry for rambling on but I really dont know what to do now...because im guessing its SOMETHING in my computer causing a fault in the card because being sent 3 faulty cards cant happen right?

my first guess was the motherboard and i was gonna order another one but i want your input and advice first...

    Thanks for reading.

ADDITIONAL INFO: my Mobo is this one MSI P35 Neo-F Socket 775 FSB1333 onboard 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

it supports everything i have, any initial advice would be great

I think you said that the 6600 doesn't have an external power connector. If that's the case then the only difference between the two cards is the 6 pin PCI-e power connector. If your computer is causing the cards to fail then I would be looking at the PSU first. If it's the motherboard then you'd think it would kill the 6600 as well.

Peterdiva, thanks alot for the reply, i appreciate it.

and yes the 6600 does not have a 6 pin power connector...very good point, i never actually thought of that..

it would make sense as well as my 6600 HAS and DOES run fine with it for very long peroids of time...

and you know what! coming to think of it...if you read this original story to the thread (if you could be bothered :P 8 pages long hehe) but yeah i had a problem with my pc overheating, blah blah etc, got it fixed but when i sent it into the shop i got two fans put in, AND a new PSU...because i thought i needed a more powerful one just in case...

got my new gfx card and bam, with that new psu it went faulty and now this one...

to be honest now im 100% convinced its the PSU , actually makes me very happy as i did not want to replace the motherboard.

as i said peter, thanks alot for that reply, i actually never thought of that at all. very much appreciated.

EDIT: only problem i have now is sending ANOTHER card back to the people i bought it from, it would be the 3rd one sent back...

its got a warranty for 1 year on them so should i not worry about them saying "No, we are not going to RMA another one"
