when booting
when booting to the XP i receive a blue screen saying
"click your user name"
this is quite new, as till tooday my desktop appeared directly.
how to correct so that this screen doesn't appears ?
please advise
thanks

Control Panel, User Accounts, then click on "Change the way users log on or off". Put a check mark in both:
"Use Welcome Screen", and
"Use Fast User Switching"
If you have Guest Account showing at Log on, turn it off.
In User Accounts, click Guest Account, click "Turn off Guest Account".

Thanks Dan
But when I try to open User Accounts I receive an error message:
Wrong number of arguments or unvalid property assignment
What can be done?

Download and run the VBScript (olereg.vbs) found under "Resolution" on this page;
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/olereg.htm
Then attempt the adjustments in User Accounts.

thanks Dan
the vbscript worked, but after checking the user accounts i find than both "welcome screen" and "fast swiching" are checked, "guest" is off, but the screen with requiring user name click still appears.
I tried to remove my name from the "administrator", but it returns again.
Never mind, it is only annoying and not a serious issue.
thanks anyway

Sorry, I gave you the way my machine is set. I boot straight into XP, (but I must have done a registry edit or other tweak to accomplish this.) Try;
Start, Run and type control userpasswords2. Click OK.
Under the Users tab, clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box. Click Apply.
In the dialog box that appears, enter a user name and password that should be used to logon automatically. (Administrator will probably appear first, change this to your normal, everyday account, unless Administrator is what you use (not recommended).) Click OK.
Open Control Panel, User Accounts. Click "Change the Way Users Log On and Off".
Uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" and "Use Fast User Switching".

Thank you Dan
This time it worked
Thanks again
