    Can't send out from Outlook

    Can anybody help.
I can receive e-mails and use my web O.K but as of yesterday I can't send out e-mails. I get an error message No 0x800CCC08.
I checked my settings in the Internet Accounts and they are the same as previous as I wrote them down. I have also done a System Restore but that did not cure the problem

    Welcome to D-A-L.

Is your Outgoing mail port (SMTP) set to 25 or 26?

If it's 26, try switching it to 25.

    Hi Thanks for the reply.
my computer is a few years old and the modem is pluged into the only serial port,so I can't try another. Is this the port you refered to ? .

    thanks

No. In Outlook, click on Tools, Accounts, the MAIL Tab, ensure your account is highlighted (it should default to here when you open the Main Accounts window), then Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab. Under Server Port Numbers, you'll see Outgoing mail (SMTP):.

This number is generally set to 25. (Some third party mail systems (Gmail, etc) use 26.) If it's 26, try switching it to 25. Close out all windows including Outlook. Reopen Outlook and attempt to send out mail. If it still doesn't work, repeat these steps and change the number back to what it was.

I've been checking on the 0x800CCC08 error, and all I can find (thus far) is that it means INVALID STATE. I have found no fixes yet, nor what this INVALID STATE applies to.

Just to clarify, you are running (as stated) Outlook (part of MS Office), and not Outlook Express, correct?

Did you install any new hardware or software just prior to the problem?

If it wasn't the port, it's most likely that the outgoing server is (somehow) listed incorrectly. Given that you can receive email, I doubt it's a Windows problem. (Winsock, etc.)

Looking forward to see what it was/is.

    Hi Dan

Had the guy in to sort out my problem.
Evidently Sky changed the mail server to Google last August and I was still on the old settings. The cut off date was when my outgoing stopped working,
He went into the Sky help centre and there is a list on how to configure my Outlook. On the old setting on the in and out going mail I just had pop.sky.com. Now you have to have pop.tools.sky.com. The port settings had to be changed from 25 to 465 in outgoing and 995 in incoming.
All working O.K now,so thanks for trying to help me.
    All the best

Yeah, I figured it had to be the server/port settings. Glad you got it worked out, and thanks for posting back with the results.
