Recently my USB hasn't been connecting to my phone, and now I noticed it's not detecting the things I plugged onto my USB hub. Whenever I put something in it says unknown device or USB Device Not Recognized. Strangely my mouse is USB also, but that is working fine.

How can I fix this USB Device Not Recognized problem? I've already searched in a lot forums to try to fix the problem with my phone, but now everythings not working.

Is this an external USB Hub?

If so do the case ports work?

Can you verify that Plug & Play is enabled in XP Services as well as the BIOS?

Also check your Device Manager under USB Controllers.

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager.

I've tried all the ports, and it only seems that my mouse is working. I'm sorry how do I check my BIOS to see if plug and play is on?

It usually works, just recently it stopped and I haven't messed with any of those configurations.

If it is a new problem you could try a System Restore to a point (date) prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore


You can also check your Device Manager and attempt to reload drivers there.

Also what is the make and model of the computer or motherboard?

Reloading the chipset drivers might help.


BIOS Setup is usually accessed by pressing Delete after you power on the computer. Usually you will see "Press Delete to enter Setup".

Some HP & Dell use F2 instead.

I just checked on XP it is set on automatic. But I'm not sure how to check on BIOS

I'm using a ASUS P5LD2 Motherboard. I just installed the new chipset drivers, which was after the problem, I thought it would fix it, but it didn't. I'll try checking BIOS now.

Just checked the BIOS.. I couldn't find any plug and play options there. If I do a system restore, and it still doesn't work will I be able to restore my present settings?

There is an option to undo the restore yes.

All a restore does is resets the registry.

It does not affect data etc.

I just tried a system restore, my pda and my hubs were still not recognized.

Just to clarify: you are using the USB ports on the motherboard itself i.e. the rear of the computer case?


There was a new BIOS issued for that board about 3 weeks ago:

Insert: motherboard > socket 775 > P5LD2


This would not explain why it used to work and now does not but it is another option to try.
