Unable to adjust resolution or colors

Hi guys. I'm trying to fix a problem that occured after reinstalling my operating system. My monitor is displaying only in 640x480 and lowest quality (4-bit). There are no other options to select. I've gone through some troubleshooting guides, and most of them told me pretty much the same thing, to update drivers for my video card. I don't know what my video card is, it's whatever came on my computer. When someone tried to help me figure out what video card I have, they said it was as if I didn't have one at all. I definitly used to, because it worked fine for several years. I'm a little familiar with computers but I am no expert, especially when it comes to devices and drivers.

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavillion, running Windows XP.

Any other information you may need, let me know. Thanks in advance!

Is your monitor plug vertical near the upper edge of your case or horizontal towards the lower middle?

If the former your graphics are on the motherboard. If the latter then you have a graphics card.

If the former what is the exact Pavilion model #?

It's vertical, but not at the top, it's about half way up on the left side. The model is Pavillion 513.

    Thanks!

Here is the HP site for drivers:

You may need to further ID your model but basically you want the Graphics drivers. Assuming: HP Pavilion 513g Desktop PC (US)

We get: Intel Extreme Graphics Driver Update

Hard to believe it was that simple... The funny thing is I had been to that site before, but I think I got confused over which driver to install. It's working like a dream now! Thank you a thousand times over!
