I don't know if this is a common problem so excuse me if I'm the 50th moron who's posted this question. Also, I don't know much about computers. I didn't even know what a driver was before a few months ago when I started having this problem.
I've been struggling with a whale of an audio issue lately. I've just replaced the hard drive on my 3 year old compaq presario R4000 notebook after the one in it had gone bad. Now everything runs smooth and fine, except there's no sound.
When I download the audio driver for my computer from hp's website, called hp conexant ac-audio link driver, it refuses to install and an error message that says 'windows cannot find \swsetup\audio\setup.exe make sure you typed the name correctly'. comes up with a DOS window in the background. Consequently this is the same issue I kept having a while back with my old HD, when my computer repeatedly kept crashing and I had to reformat and reinstall windows 2 or 3 times.
According to the information I've gathered since then I'm pretty sure I have to get rid of the legacy audio drivers that can be accessed through control panel and device manager, but there's no way to remove them. There's no option to remove or uninstall them anywhere, and nowhere on the internet have I found a definitive answer as to how to get rid of them.
Like I said, I have no idea how common this problem is, I've seen plenty of people with issues relating to the LAD but not really anything about conflicts between the LAD and specific drivers from the manufacturer.
What should I do? How do I get rid of my LAD? SHOULD I get rid of them? Can I get some other driver that won't cause a conflict with the the LAD or is it likely that's even the problem?
please help, I'm going quite insane from this problem.
