Why cant i install XP?
I already have Windows xp sp2 but when i attempt to reinstall xp using my genuine xp disc i get the error "No hard drive disc found please install one"
Now this is not true i have a hard drive so what could be the problem. Just to clear this up i have tons of viruses and im trying 2 reformat and reinstall windows.
Thanks for all your help!

When do you get this error (message)?
Do you have a SATA hard drive?
If so are you loading the drivers at the F6 prompt?
Is your XP CD an SP2 CD? If not you may need to format outside of Windows.
Anyway the SATA issue would be my first guess.

how do you check if you have a SATA hard drive? Sorry, im newb when it comes to this stuff. I get the message when it asks me to click enter to install windows xp, but it says i dont have a hard drive.

Can you still boot into your old XP?
-
Actually the BIOS Setup would be a better source of info here.
Are you familiar with this? Most computers say "Press Delete to enter Setup" when first powered on.
In the BIOS Setup look for a Hard Drive (HDD) menu and see if your hard drive is identified.

When my computer starts F2 is Setup and F12 is boot menu.
Now i dont know what my problem is but i got some bad viruses so im trying to reformat and reinstall windows xp but as you know when i attempt to start the install it says no hard drive found.
Well this is still the case =[
Also pressing delete did nothing on start up.

Press F2 for setup.
Look for a hard drive or drive menu or a boot menu.
Look for your hard drive.
If found what is the ID?
-
I found a drive here it is:
Drive 0: SATA-0
Controller=Serial ATA
Port = Sata-0
Driver ID= ST380819AS
It holds 80 gbs and is controlled by system bios
i have a total of 6 drives for example Drive 0 then Drive 1 but only 0 is SATA and it has a serial the others with the serial are PATA

Ok. The XP CD cannot see SATA drives until you load the motherboard drivers.
You will see when the CD starts on the bottom of the screen: "Press F6 to install drivers".
Press F6.
The CD will load a few files then ask you to insert the floppy disk containing the drivers.
The drivers come from either the motherboard manufacturer or the computer manufacturer.
Is this a pre-built system? F2 reminds me of Compaq/HP.
If so what is the exact model?
Also is this a recovery XP CD provided by the manufacturer?
