    Unhappy slllooooooooooooowwww

    Hi

    Just upgraded to the following:

    gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2L - mboard
    1G ram
    AMD 64 X2 4200+

still using soundblaster live soundcard and geforce4 vid with 256mb ram.

when i initally installed the hd into the new box, XP wouldn't boot, so did a clean install after formatting. But this machine is running like a dog! 15-30 sec delay opening windows explorer and don't get me started on the time it takes for outlook to load.

    any suggestions?

    "... did a clean install ..."

Have you loaded the drivers for that board? (Chipset, Sata, Raid, etc)

    Is the latest bios installed?

Is your memory proper for that board, and installed correctly? (Dual channel etc)

    Hi

Yes loaded the drivers that came with it. Just updated the bios and it seems to be running a little faster.

    I've got 1G DDR2 667 RAM.

I've just loaded XP Service Pack 1 and since then when I load the Disc that came with the board, the drivers that needed SP1 installed before being used are now no longer available to install.

might contact gigabyte and see if they can suggest anything.

    thanks for the bios tip!

"loaded the drivers that came with it"

You should download/use the driver versions on the Gigabyte site. They will be the latest drivers available. Many times when you purchase something, the on-site drivers will be more recent than what came with the device "off the shelf".

    Re: XP SP's
Just load SP2 as it contains SP1 (and the fixes for SP1).

Looks like your memory is the correct type. Is your brand listed with the Gigabyte sites QVL? (Although they do state that only some (major) vendors are listed.)
