    difficult HD detection

I recently bought a new system with Windows XP on a 80Gb HD. I added a 250 Gb HD with my data that I took out of my old machine (also running on XP). Everything works fine except for one detail. I set the OS to go into standby mode after some time of inactivity. When I start it back up, the additional data drive is not detected. All I have to do is to go to the Control Panel, Add Hardware, click on the undetected HD. It then says it's functioning correctly, and from there on the drive is detected and works. The thing is, I don't want to do this everytime the system starts up from standby mode.

    Any advice?
    Thanks!

"I added a 250 Gb HD with my data that I took out of my old machine..."

So this is an internal disk, not USB?

And just to affirm, SP2 is installed?

Yes sorry, I might have been somewhat more specific.

Yes and yes. It is an internal disk, and SP2 is installed.

I might add that the motherboard is brand new, the new HD is a Serial ATA2 (ST380815AS), and the larger and older one (my data drive) is an ATA (Maxtor 7L250R0, connected with a broad grey ribbon cable).

    Thanks.

Well, just to let you guys know, the problem is solved. Apparently it was simply a jumper setting problem. Nothing too difficult.

To echo jephree, apologies for the delay. My (cable) ISP has been having equipment difficulties here. (Small town (Pop 7400) in Alberta Canada.) I lost my internet for over two weeks. Just got it back yesterday. I was researching your problem when it went out.
