Although I have never done it I see postings that indeed you can have NTFS on your flash drives. Just a quick Google:

You know what the problem was???

A small stupid file was missing (don't ask me how it disappeared, i have no idea!)

If the file "fastfat.sys" is not present in the Windows\system32\drivers\ map the machine can't read any Fat or Fat32 partitions anymore.

I installed the XP support tools (needed extract.exe) and extracted the fastfat.sy_ to my windows\system32\drivers directory , rebooted... and i can access all again!
