Re: Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

I am so dumb. All I ever did before was install the cleanup utility and never actually ran it. I had been thinking that it just ran itself and did the cleanup when I installed it. After installing it I had no idea where it went. So I had to search to find it and found it. Ran it and below is what I saw... Thanks for your help Jeffery (Jeffery is easier for me...haha...)

I do not see any obvious Office products there.

However the point would be that you have some software that left its installer incomplete. I will review your list further.

You do have some outdated software in there especially Java.

Try this scan and update what it finds:

    http://secunia.com/software_inspector/

As time permits I will review your list.

You might also run a Search from start/search for Office. However Open Office will also be found.

I did the secunia thing and updated. WinXp was in good shape and just needed 4 updates which I would have taken care of in a few more days anyway. Updated all other software. Had trouble with AdobeFlash, MacromediaFlash and Java. I think I was trying to update several old editions because they all said I had the latest editions. The only thing I didn't update was Messenger but I tried and it had problems updating. I don't use it anyway but want to leave the old one installed because it has all of my particular settings so that if I start using it again it is set up the way I want it and I can update it if I decide to use it again.

Did the office search and didn't find much but got rid of the few that were there.

The pesky popups are still popping up though...haha...

Thanks for any further help you are willing to give.

Here is a new Windows Installer Clean Up which is a little different than the previous one.

Are you familiar with the Registry?

    Go to start > Run...

    Type: regedit

Then dig into it by pressing the + sign in front of the various entries.

Look for anything on this path:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

    ---------------------

Also do you have more than one account on this computer?

Also, just to verify, you do not have an Office CD?

After I got rid of Office I ran three different registry cleaners that I use (jv16PT, EasyCleaner & Ace Utilities) so I would guess there might not be much left in the registry but I will go and look. Just look is all you want me to do???

By the question "Also do you have more than one account on this computer?" is you mean is anyone using the computer other than me the answer is no. Once a great while we might have some visiting relatives who would get on the computer and use it though. But there hasn't been anybody else on it but me for quite a while.

I don't have the office CD

Searched the registry and here is a picture of the office portion.

Is this XP Home or Pro?

    Just to verify:

    You uninstalled Office?

    You do not use Office?

    Is this correct?

If so I would first off back up your Registry then I would delete that entire Office folder.

    Good registry backup:

    Is is XP Home

I did not uninstall office as it would not uninstall without the Office CD so I just finally deleted everything Office

    I do not use office

Okay I will back up my Registry and then see what I can do about deleting the Office folder (I don't have any Office folder on my C:\ drive anymore). I presume by that you mean the Office folder that is in the Registry???
