I think you'll find that on the XP CD.

"i don't have the disk anymore and this file is not in my computer anywhere"

Hmmm. This is the second time (in about two or three weeks) that I've seen this exact same problem surface. (May have been on another forum somewhere.)

thanks for the file Dan. i got it in there and all but i'm still having the same problem. basically the computers pushing out a distorted sound and can make cds that don't have any problems sound like...we, terrible. anyways i know this problem won't be at the top of any list but any suggestions are welcome. and yes i have gone to the control panel and adjusted the output volume by any means ii can come up with as a computer novice. i also changed to some speakers that definitely DO NOT have any problems so it's definitely an output thing. thanks in advance for any help you have to offer.

i also happened to notice you're interest include guitars as do mine. i'm also trying to work on getting some original music from a korg digital 8 track so if you have any helpful input in this field it would help me out immensely. obviously a free time request but thanks nonetheless.

What sound device is on this machine?

Is it onboard or a peripheral card in a (PCI) slot?

Are you using the manufacturers drivers or Windows "stock" drivers on it?

Are the "distorted sounds" occurring with any audio output, or only things you've recorded and saved with some utility?

    On music:
For recording/saving my music I use Audacity. I run a line level out from my mixers to the Line In on my Sound Blaster Live! card. Some photos attached.

    Here's a sample of the results I get (10MB file): http://www.d-a-l.com/dan/sample.zip

when i go to control panel-sounds and audio devices i have my audio coming from soundmax digital audio, and all the drivers for this are manufacturer provided
basically the problem is with any music i've got in my windows media player. it all sounds like there's just WAY too much bass and so it's distorting all the highs and mids too and sounds like i'm playing through some totally blown speakers. i've looked everywhere i can think of in the WMP for any kind of eq or anything i can adjust and have had no luck.

so with the picttures...are you running thru an audio interface to get all that into the computer or does your software handle all that internally. (i have this little, most standard model possible, interface that is merely a RCA-USB and when i hook it up the computer sees it and everything but then when i play anything thru it, it's as if the computer doesn't "hear" it.
when i listen to the samples you sent, they sound pretty good...definitely better than the quality i'm getting from all my CDS. but when it plays it's coming thru WMP also so why would my music be so...ungood, while yours sounds decent and they're coming from the same place? :S
do you guys ever jam with a live drummer or do you do it all with a drum machine? if i ever get this to work out i'll send you some of the stuff i've done with this drum machine! it's pretty sick. i was and forever wiil be a drummer first and i'm sure you'd notice if i can ever send it to you.
thanks again for taking the time

hey man thanks so much for the heads up on that software. i have been arduously trying for months to figure out how to get this music in here. today with your help i finally succeeded. i just had to run all the tracks and record it in in real time so i couldn't really edit it but i'll learn how to really use this and have a lot of fun i think. my email address is (edited by Dan Penny) so if you get a chance or if you're even remotely interested, send me your real email address and i'll send you a copy of one of the songs i got in thanks to you. like i said before you might like what i did with the drum machine too. anyways, all my cd music is still less than desirable but i wanted to send a big thanks just for being the right guy for me to ask about the other. all suggestions are still welcome for my audio playback quality problems. later-

I've edited your above post to remove your email address. There are "Bots" that crawl forums etc looking for valid email addresses to send spam/junk mail to.

I've just created a secondary email address for our communications. (I never give out my "real" email address.) You're the only person who has it. Please keep it only between us. I sent you a PM regarding the above.

    From your "distorted sound" problem descriptions;

If all your other audio (system sounds etc) are OK, and it's just things you've "captured" or recorded,,,,,,

It sounds as though you might be using "speaker out" levels (as opposed to line level out) going to your line in for recording.

Or, your recording levels were set too high? (Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio/Sound Recording/Volume)

Or, your RCA-USB interface is a pre-amp of sorts, and it's boosting the signal. (This is a guess.)

I don't use WPM (7.1 or above) for anything. It's too much of a resource hog, and it "takes-over" pretty well anything to do with audio. Especially with its DRM (Digital Rights Media) rules. If you use it to record anything, and you change machines, reload windows etc, it won't play back anything unless you've saved the ~license information~ and tell it where to find it.

If I want to "rip" a music CD, I use CDEX 1.51
When I record, I use Audacity and export the cut(s) directly to a wave or MP3.

For playback of any audio, I use WMP 6.4. (C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe). I set this player for all formats.

thanks for the feedback and i emailed that song to you so check it out about the distortion problems it may stem back to my lack of "Sndvol32" which you sent but as i adjust the volume it just gives me a quieter poor sound quality. the music that's having the problem is any cds i've ripped and the sound quality is great on the cd but poor coming out of here...can you even adjust recording levels for ripping a cd?? anyways, ima try to burn a cd and play it somewhere else and i'll let you know what happens. thanks again
