I have some general questions about XP
First, using the "msconfig" what all do I need to run when my computer starts up? I would to close out all that I can but, don't know what to have and what not to have?
Secondly, I have on-board sound and I also have a SoundBlaster Audigy SE card that is PC slot but, not installed. I have been using on-board and was told that if I use the SB card it will help my computer run smoother because it would use the system's ram. Does it help or not?
Lastly, I just bought a LapTop Ascer with Vista home and was wondering can I take that out and install XP Pro instead using Vista Home?
Thanks

Nothing in msconfig/startup is essential to XP starting. All those entries have been added by other programs. The only things that would be considered necessary are your Anti Virus and Firewall software. msconfig/startup is also reversible in that you can go back and turn things on. The items on the list are not removed from the list.

I know of no system advantage to using a PCI sound card. Most people use them for advanced sound systems. Unless you are setting up such a system or do heavy music tasks i.e. editing; mixing; etc. I would leave it out.
If you do use it there is a setting in your BIOS to turn off the on-board chip.

Possible: yes. Advisable: no.
First see if Acer has XP drivers for that model. If not then no way.
You will also be "wasting" an expensive operating system and voiding all your warranties.
Some manufacturers (HP and Dell at least) are offering XP downgrades. This would be the only sensible method. Check to see if Acer has such an offer.
