HELP!!!
My computer will not boot past the Windows XP screen(The one just before the welcome screen), nor will it boot in safe mode(or any of the boot screen options) or from the cd rom drive.
This all started with the following BSOD when I was building a playlist in the newest version of winamp:

I am running WindowsXP Pro SP2 on a Gateway E-4200 P3-700 with 450 megs of ram. I have removed each memory card 1 at a time with no luck so I am pretty sure it wasn't caused by a bad memory card. I am unable to get to the event log or memory dump so I cannot post them here, sorry!

Can someone please help me fix this.

have you a XP CD?

I have the cd but my computer wont recognize my cd rom drive so I can't use the disk for recovery or a repair install, I have even tried to access the cd rom using a Windows Me boot disk and that didn't even work!

Is the CDROM drive recognized by the bios during boot up?

Is the CDROM set as the first Boot Device in the bios?

OK I want to thank everyone for their help, I formatted an extra drive that I had sitting around and installed on to it and it worked fine so I got that out of the way! You would think that with Associates Degrees in programming and repair I would have figured that one out sooner

I gather you were able to get the CDROM working then? If so, couldn't (or can) you have attempted a repair install (on the original disk)?

I tried a repair install but the XP install kept coming up with NTLDR is missing, press any key to reboot! Then it would start the install process over from the beginning, it would start from the hard drive! I tried every trick I could think of or find online with no luck that is why I went with the clean install on a new drive, also this got rid of any problems that may have cause this mess to start with so I think, just to be on the safe side, it was the best way to go! Also I was getting tired of messing with it and just wanted to get it fixed and going again.

OK. I was just wondering if you'd tried.
