Generic Host Process for Win32 Services error

Hi there, thanks for viewing my post.
I get this error message at random times, and during random activities, such as browsing, and even when the computer is left idle. A few mins after the error message comes up, my internet will stop working, and so will my sound.

    I use a D-link USB ADSL modem.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Yoonsi

    Is this a new problem?

Do you have all Windows Updates?

    Updated anti virus?

    Some ideas here:

Hello, here's what another user said worked.

"Since this appeared to be something related to Windows Update file, I turned Off Automatic Updates Option first. Then I went under Start--> All Programs--> windows Update and manually installed and downloaded the Windows Update. After that I restarted the system and turned on the Automatic Updates back again . "

The thing is, I don't get it! I'm running WinXP and I'm only using AVG free 8.0! Can someone help me decipher this?

Can you please clarify the question?

Are you getting the exact same error as the original poster?

If you are getting memory dumps then read the following:

    BSOD
