Home built PC with Abit Motherboard and AMD Processor

    Hello all,
Picked up trojans yesterday and went into safe mode after turning off system restore, tried to remove it last night and got sick of working with it. Turned unit off and went to bed. Decided I would try again this morning (Saturday)
But, when I turn the power on The Green Led Power Light and the Green HD led comes on but the screen is black and the led on Monitor never goes to green to indicate signal. I first checked all Power supply readings on the MB and they were close to what I had recorded about a month ago when unit was giving trouble then. (would not boot up then but tble came clear) been working ok since then. I removed all but the video card and same thing. Reinserted the cards and removed all memory sticks and turned unit on and still same thing. (The trojan was Win32.trojandownloader.small" ) and (Win32.trojandownloader.zlob)
I think that the MB has gone sour if anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate the help.

    Running Windows XP Home /wSP2
Have three memory sticks. The unit is approximately 8 years old. Just hate to give it up was a gift from my son.

Does your hard disk LED start flashing to indicate activity? (ie; O/S trying to load)

Have you tried booting with another bootable media? (Floppy or CD)

    Dan,
HD led never flickers. Have not tried booting from cd or floppy. will do that and post back asap.

May sound stupidly simple, but have you checked your monitor connections?

If you are using a graphics card, do you have onboard graphics? if so, try this.

Also, do you hear the normal activity from your hard drive?

    madmikejt12,
Monitor connections are ok, there is no activity from the processor, and the cd and dvd drives will not open.

    Dan,
Drives will not open to try booting from these.

in that case, the problem is either with your PSU, motherboard or CPU

re-check ALL internal connections (especialy that the CPU is correctly seated and the psu connections are ok)

if you take your memory (ram) out, so you get any bios beeps?

Will check the seating of the CPU and report back.
Looked up pinout on the ATX PSU and made readings again and all voltages are within .5V of what they are supposed to be which eliminates the PSU as a problem in my guess-T-mation. (Voltage readings made with digital VM and measured at the pins of the MB with power on)

That leaves the CPU or motherboard then, it could be either.... do you have a spare cpu you could try? or another computer you can try the cpu in (must be the same socket type)

its strange how the cd drive wont open because it should open with only the 4 pin molex connector giving it power direct from the PSU.

I personally cant think of anything else you could try, Dan Penny or Jephree might have another sugestion
