    explorer.exe problem

    Hi
I keep losing explorer.exe and have to keep restarting it in task manager.

Particularily on a cold boot i will lose it everytime i open an application, then it gradually settles down. i have been right through an extensive virus and malware search with Neal see http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=53793 has anybody got any ideas

I have also used scannow and defragged etc all to no avail

Did it ever work OK on your setup?

I note you have the C: drive as backup and D: as system.

    Why?

This in itself is often problematic.

    System wants to be C:

What is some history? Did your setup ever work? Why is it setup like this?

Did you set it up? etc. etc. etc.

    Hi Jephree

yes it has been working fine for about 6 months, its a dual boot system with vista on one drive and XP on the other when i boot into XP it shows D as system when i boot into vista C is system.

the vista is working sweet but the XP has started this explorer.exe problem i dont recall downloading or installing anything , it just started to lose my desktop every now and then ,then it got quite often its now not so bad except on a cold boot when i lose it up to half a dozen times

Did you try system restore to a point where it was working ok?

Next thought is a Repair Install of XP but that raises the Vista boot issue.

If they were both on the same hard drive XP would over write Vista's boot sequence.

If they are truly independent I still am bothered by the drive distinction. The OS you boot to should be C:.

Anyway just my ideas. I'd try system restore on the XP. If that doesn't help I'd Repair re-Install it.

Being aware that you might need to repair your Vista as well.
