    Blinking Hour Glass Cursor...

I had one of those small windows popup in the tray. I would hit the X and it kept coming back and kept beeping. I was told how to eliminate the popup and beep and it worked. However, I still see the cursor blink to an hour glass and back at the same rate. Something must be running or wants to run. How do I get back to no blinking cursor? By the way, the words in the box I got to quit showing up said the following: MTP device.

Thanks for any help you can give. John

    Media Transfer Device.

USB thumb drives or any portable storage device etc.

    Ring any bells?

Yes it does. A friend of mine from Germany was here for a week and wanted to attach an 80 gig pocket harddrive to my computer. It needed two USB sockets. We did it and it worked fine. One of the sockets was the one that I put my mouse into. He left and I put the mouse into the usual socket.

So, having said that, what do I do now that he is gone? Is there something that needs deleted?

Try the Control Panel > Add Hardware

    Does anything come up?

Or the Device Manager > Disk drives

Anything "unknown"? Also look for Unknown devices.

Or is there a "phantom" drive listed under My Computer?

Under control Panel Add Hardware, it says I can only do one thing at a time and something else is trying now.

I found it. I was as you suggested in Device Manager. There was an entry for the device that my friend added on a USB port. It was trying to finish an install. I just deleted the entry and all is running very fast again with the blinking cursor.

    Many thanks jephree.
