    PowerDVD program on Dell 2400

    Hi,
Recently had to do a re-install 0f windows XP home edition on my Dell 2400 desktop pc. Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to use PowerDVD player. It had not been installed. I took the Cd media that came with the Dell documentation and tried to install. Got this error "openphysicalmemory Failed then this error...unable to install on non Dell Computer!!!!!!!!! What is this I am using,,,,,,Seriously anyone out there had this problem? Did a search and found nothing.
Thanks for any help in advance.

"PowerDVD player.... It had not been installed."

Was this "bundled" with your DELL software, or a "stand-alone" which you had installed after the fact? (Given the statement below I assume it was bundled, but just to clarify....)

"I took the Cd media that came with the Dell documentation and tried to install."

PowerDVD is an Ahead (Nero) product. XP uses this technology/software for it's burning elements. It's usually bundled with DVD burners.

"Got this error "openphysicalmemory Failed then this error...unable to install on non Dell Computer"

Have you contacted/searched the DELL site?

Is you machine operating "normally" other than the above?

Is your memory correctly "accounted for" on bootup?

    In either case, you could test it via;

    Download and run MemTest86+.
    http://www.memtest.org/

Use the appropriate downloaded file to create either a floppy bootdisk or a bootable CD. For a floppy, unzip the files to an empty directory and (with a floppy in your drive) run the install.bat file. When complete, you won't see any files on the floppy, but they are there. Just boot the machine with this floppy and run it as long as you can afford to. If there are errors, run it on one memory module at a time to narrow down the possibilities. (ie; Remove all but one module.) You may have to set your bios boot device sequence to boot from the floppy (or CDROM) drive first.

    Dan Penny,
The PC was working fine until a HD crash several days ago. Memory is accounted for at boot up, no free info on Dell site and it is out of warranty.
Machine is working fine other than for this glitch. Memory test ok.
Tried to load from windows safe mode and made it to the EULA, accepted it and the installation would go no further. Got an error.....An installer support file DXver.dll was unable to be installed. Downloaded dll file and pasted into C:\windows\system32. Then "run"regsvr32DXver.dll and it was not found in system. This was a bundle package from Dell when I purchased it.
    Thanks for your help

"I took the Cd media that came with the Dell documentation and tried to install. ...then this error...unable to install on non Dell Computer"

"was working fine until a HD crash"

If the above means you used a DELL "Restore" CD, it's possible that the installation "saw" different hardware than what came with it from the factory, and refused the install. Some "factory restore" packages will not run if there's been major hardware changes to the machine. It may have seen the (new hard disk I'm assuming?) as a major change.

Sorry that it took so long to get back with you but, my home built pc went out and the Dell belongs to the wife and she could get by without the DVD player. I will visit the Dell site and see what I can do. Thanks for your patience.
