During the download of the boot disks there is no prompt to change disks and there is not enough room on the disk that is currently in the drive? Would you have any solutions to this?
Have never seen that. Did you format the floppies?
If so try different floppies or try a different download just to verify.
Just to clarify: you need to pre-format the floppy disks.
Thanks, I did that, now I'm looking for a new link to download the boot info onto the disks, the link that was posted no longer works...
Disregard last post...
Some things for the average PC user (noob) to know before you get involved in this process.
The recovery console can be loaded, but it has to be loaded every time the commands don't work (prepare for a long night). I am assuming this is the case because it wasn't loaded before the problem occurred. But you had no reason to load it, because you did not have a problem... but now you do.
READ... and read a lot, it can only help. The more you read the merrier you will be. The people who leave this information for you sop up, have no idea that they should leave instructions like you were a 5 year old. (Make it simple make it clear and leave lots of details.)
I am not through this yet, so I cannot leave detailed instructions for my situation... but I will or at least I'll try to.
As for the problem I believe that the userinit.exe file is no longer in one of the files it should be. I need to find out what location(s) it should be in, and then add the file to those registries via the recovery console.
I did not use the FIXMBR command as it seemed a little off... as there is nothing wrong with the drives... but I have a missing/corrupted/moved file.
If you have anymore advice or ideas they will be recieved with open arms... so to speak.
Thanks Jeph.
Turns out that I had my CD case with password and only needed to get a copy of xp to work out my situation.
What did I learn?
Back up files to another device, preferably an independent large hard drive that you can access from another cpu. Especially info and pics... such as a resume or photographs.
Load the recovery console. NOW!
Prepare for something to go wrong, at the worst time... it will.
If you work on a cpu daily, take the time to get acquainted with each facet... yeah, yeah I know... "But I don't need that info" You never do until its too late.
The disc is the easiest way to go... I now have the disc and the floppies.
Good luck.
