Hi I can't understand why xp has started to load in less than 20 secs always used to be about a minuet .
I have Ubuntu and xp on the same 40gb drive this week I have been building a new well part new system but the hard disc I ordered was the last part to arrive and I wanted to test it so took the hard disk from my machine and put it in the new one I didn't try Windows at all just ran ubuntu and everything looked ok .


When I put the Hard disk back in to my computer and loaded windows it loaded up very quickly so what can have happened to make it do this.

Lucky you, good to hear someone is having good luck, I am just guessing but it could be possible that you may have reseated the IDE cable maybe a little more securely and that could possibly make an improvement to system performance. Other then that, i would guess nothing else would have been touched that could cause it.

I did once think of that but would it not of made ubuntu load quicker as well .

Another thing I have just noticed when I opened disk defragment that the green unmovable section that is most likely the operating system was always to the left stuck between two blue sections now it has moved to the far right .

That is very odd with disk defragment, as if the "unmoveable" sectors should not have moved... You didnt by accident put another Hard Drive in did you??

No not possible I only have one drive with XP on.
