I try with internet explorer, it doesn't work. I try with Firefox, it doesn't work. Sometimes i can download things, mostly files under 5MB, but other times not at all. Its really annoying, because i have tried for days to get it to work, but it still doesn't. I have tried reinstalling both Firefox, and Internet Explorer, but the download always freezes. I've scanned my computer, changed security options, and restarted my computer. If someone could please help I would be very thankful.
*EDIT* I looked at connection options when i was downloading a file, and the kb/s rate slowly went down to zero. (Ex: started at 175 kb/s and went down to 100, to 50, and to 0)
(Click on the key, then click on the + sign to the left of the key. This will "expand" that keys sub-keys. (Just like My Computer or Windows Explorer folders.) A glance at the bottom bar of the regedit window will tell you where you are in the registry. Make sure what you see there matches exactly what's posted here.)
Expand Plugins
Below the expanded Plugins key, right click on Extension and choose Delete.
Exit/close Regedit.
Restart Windows and then try downloading with IE.
See the attached picture for an exact clarification of which key.
(There's an "Extensions" key above where you want to be. Don't delete that key.)
I did exactly what you said, but it made no difference. I tried it with File planet's separate down loader, and from a normal web site, but they both stopped at 70 - 90% of the way. This is really strange, because if its a small file, like a little plugin or something it works, but not bigger files like programs.
I think this may be some kind of setting that blocks downloads... When one of my chat programs was trying to download the update, it froze also. I had to restart the computer to get it to work.
and let this run in background, now open your web browser and try doing what you are trying to download, and see if your pings stop completely or just get huge ping times, curious to see if the PC is only affecting your web browser or everything.
Well, in the 10 seconds it was downloading i pinged www.google.ca about 5 times. i averaged all of them together, and its 256ms, which is a way high, but I expected it to be higher than the normal 42ms because i was downloading at 120 kb/s... Two or three of the pings timed out after taking 2-4 seconds though.
you on broadband or dsl? I have never used dsl, always broadband, and i get 6 mbps and 764 kbps up, and my pings are always 6-7 ms, even when i do see pc's with a virus of some sort, pings are usually in the teens, never that high.
also, when you have no windows open, close them all and ping out, still get the same thing?
Do you have an additional firewall like zonealarm or anything?
No, i have DSL, no other programs, when i pinged i still got 42ms with no other windows. I just have the default firewall, never installed a new one. And i don't have a pop-up blocker enabled, even though it stops downloads with all the internet.
