Re: BSOD - No Idea Why

    Are you still crashing?

I have been having problems on some servers myself.

Also got a "mic" and it works in "test" but not in game. In game i just get a yellow ! when I hit V.

Anyway are you still having a problem? And I would not base any decision at this point in time on TF2.

Oh i see....i guess ill wait until EP2 and Portal come out to see if i get BSODs with those games.

ANd about your mic, i also get a little ! in a bubble to the right side when i press V. To test if my mic is working i usually just ask if people can hear me. And i find i have to plug in my mic and THEN run TF2. If i plug in the mic while TF2 is running it seems it doesnt work for me. (i should be on tomorrow )

Also when you plug in your mic then run TF2 the sound will come out of your headphones in the mic. My mic is very similar to this. I dont really mind it.

Jephree today while we were playing TF2 i got a BSOD...and the reason i never joined back the second time was because i was just fed up with TF2 crashing for a second time. (first BSOD then TF2 crash )

Attached is the crash dump. Okay nevermind, this BSOD never left one...

And i was just thinking....my CPU could be overheating. After i got my motherboard back from an RMA a while ago i got my dads friend to put it together...well we didnt put any thermal grease on it..the temp's are always all over the place whenever i see them. Sometimes they'll be in the 20's, 30's, 40's, and most of the time it's in the 70's (it seems to like being it at 75). Oh and this is CELCIUS.

Could that cause BSOD's? Jeeze it seems there are so many problems with my computer...While the temp was currently at 35 degrees celcius i decided to run some Orthos, after about 10-15 minutes the temps went up to 50 degrees. Now i think theyre still climbing...so ill keep you posted.

    Any ideas?

Dude you need grease. See this thread:

    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=52630

Anything over 60 is not too good. 70 will crash.

Still consider the servers. I tried to respond to you in the game when you said BSOD and I was kicked from the server.

    But go get some grease!

I am also writing a PM regarding the "mic" etc.

Super Pi is a good little app that stress tests your CPU by running the infinite calculation of Pi.

Also Prime95 if you want to get a little more intense.

    Grease up first!

Yepp i was just running some Orthos. But ill give Super Pi a try in a bit.

And tomorrow on my way home from school ill *hopefully* drive over to a computer store and pick up some thermal grease.

I just hope i dont make a mistake! Just to confirm what to do...ill take off the CPU cooler, clean off any excess on the heatsink, apply a pea sized amount(too much? too little? ive heard that amount is good) in the middle of the processor, put back on heatsink/fan, plug in fan....done?

and then i pray it works..

I would read the link I posted but my own vegetative analogy is an uncooked grain of rice.

Yes get some "thermal grease cleaner" or alcohol as well.

    Also read this regarding ESD:

Thanks, i just read both of those. I always thought when applying it you just put a dot in the middle then the heatsink will flatten it out...i guess not. Also, i think ill feel more comfortable just applying it to the FSF, or do i have to put it right onto the processor?

Yes we do That would be pretty fun. Pyro is a lot funner then i thought...at first they seemed too weak..but now theyre so much fun!

Oh and i got off of TF2 right now because of a BSOD, this time it left a crash dump. I attached it.

That is a rather unique dump.

When you run Steam do you close all other applications?

We can trace every line of your stack but I would wait till you get your hardware greased just so that we don't waste too much time.

Just a brief scan of that last stack which the debugger recommended raises questions as to multiple applications and your network connection.
