Question Page File Not Being Used?

I'm running Windows XP MCE and have noticed that my page file of 2000MB is hardly being used, maybe 1/5th at most. Is this normal? It seems like everything's going to the RAM and not at all to the page file. Again, is this an issue, or is there something about all this that I don't understand?

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

How much RAM is in your machine?

2000MB is quite large for a swap file. Did you set this number?

What size is the partition and how much free space is there on it?

I've got 1GB of RAM in my machine, which I did set some time ago after reading an article on it telling me to set it to twice my RAM.

My hard drive is 120GB with about 25% being free.

OK, simply put, your RAM is working for you. This is better as RAM is much faster than a hard disk continually receiving and sending your data to your running applications. If you're not seeing an overall slowdown of your machine, all is fine.

If your swap file is indeed not being utilized, (while maintaining your current applications efficiencies), you could reduce the size of it if you are in need of more disk space. Keep the "new" size to just over 1 GB (1.2, 1.3, etc) so it can hold everything in RAM if need be.

Alternatively, you could let Windows manage it.

Keep in mind you need 12:15% free disk space for defragging operations.
