hello thanks for that but ihave checked and there is no new mail notification except in messenger but not in windows . now what do i do
Go Start, type in:
regedit.exe
Hit Enter
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\
Do you have a key there, called:
MailBeep
Should be similar to;
yes i do have mail beep
so what can i do now
I'm still having a hard time with you not finding the New Mail Notification in the control panel. You should see something like this:
Note that it says the assigned sound is "Windows XP Notify.wav".
To see if you have a sound assigned, you need to drill deeper into the registry. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\ is only the label. You need to go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\ Mailbeep\.current
There you will see the filename of the wav file assigned to that function. Note below again you will see the Windows XP default sound, "notify.wav".

i have gone into the registry and there is a sound attached to it but it is definitely not there on the sound control panel except attached to windows messenger
oh this is crazy sorry to be a pain
If you look at a screenshot provided by Dan Penny, in right pane, does it look like his:yes i do have mail beep
Does it say "New Mail Notification"?
I note again that that screen shot is only for the label - it does not determine if a sound is assigned or not. That is done under schemes. If you look at a screenshot provided by Dan Penny, in right pane, does it look like his:
Let's make sure of few other things.
1. In Outlook under Tools > Options > Other, ensure there is a check mark making Outlook the default program for E-mail.
2. You understand that the sound will only occur when Outlook is minimized
3. You understand the sound will not play when you first start Outlook.
4. Sounds work for other events such as close program or critical stop.
