thanks for telling us but it was a little to late for me as i last night i made a fresh install after formating my hard drive.
never mind at least i know it wasent my fault i thought i messed something up in the registry or something else important
Note that a fresh format and install is not the problem reported here. This is talking about doing a "repair", that is, when booting to the install disk, going into the Repair Console, and attempting to repair the existing installation of windows.
If you attempted a repair and it failed, and then you did a format/fresh install, then yes, the so called "stealth" updates might have been your problem. Of course, if MS pushed those updates out normally, that is, with the user's permission/knowledge (dependent on WU settings), this would still be a problem. In other words, "stealth" is not relevant.
Microsoft did a "R" on my XPSp2 system and I have not been able to update anything. Is this deliberate? Thank goodness you have uncovered and exposed. I have been going everywhere but to the right spot.
Thank your for this very IMPORTANT knowledge.![]()
I don't know what that means.Microsoft did a "R" on my XPSp2 systemNo. Critical updates should still work.I have not been able to update anything. Is this deliberate?
In about 2 hours (9:00am Pacific Time), MS will be releasing an important update that will not require WGA validation. When it comes out, you might try it and see what happens.
It's old news now!
