Hi all
when I boot up sometimes everything works fine then other times I have to wait an age for programs to start, different things load in to the task bar every time I boot. have tried running SCANNOW and CHKDSK but no luck . running CA anti virus which is updated everday. anybody any ideas.

What other malware scanners are you running besides an anti-virus? You might want to look at Cleaning Out Malware.

When you say Taskbar, do you mean the area next to the Start button? That is the Taskbar and nothing is normally there when first booting up. If you mean the System Tray/Notification Area - that area next to the clock, then yes, those are programs that start with Windows. You should check to make sure you really need those loaded at boot.

Sorry systems tray. I am running ad-aware 2007.
cant understand why this prob is intermitant booted up today and everithing works fine. I hav e tried other forums (pc advisor) but cant get to root of prob, any ideas

AdAware alone is not good enough. You need a real-time AS scanner, as suggested in the that link above.

Did you check to see what is loading at start?

Are you shutting down by going through the Start button menu?
