Computer crashes before welcome screen
Hi,
I was going to shut down my computer, clicking start then shut down. By mistake I turned the power off and the computer did not shut down normally.
When I tried to start my computer again it crashed/stopped just before the welcome screen - where there is a black screen and something white at the bottom. However if I clicked my keyword keys (several and any of them) it did not crash.
Any idea why my pc crashes just before the welcome screen?
Thanks,
Karl

Hi and welcome to D-A-L
can you boot into safe mode (press F8 as the machine is booting)?

Hi,
Pressing F8 I see a menu and can select Safe Mode option.
However after selecting the option screen turns black and sentences in white words appear one below each after and then they stop appearing.
Same happens when I select Safe Mode with prompt or other options
(basically they don't work - the ones I tried - or I am not waiting too long for them to work)
Thanks,
Karl

when you get into safe mode let it go through all the lettering, leave it a while see if you get a welcome screen (it will be bigger graphics than normal) log on if you can then shut down choosing restart and see what happens

Lashley, after pressing the F8 key and then the Safe Mode selection, it does take a considerable time for the computer to arrive at the 'Safe' mode. You then have to select whichever names you have, i.e., Administrator or whichever your password is. You will then be in Safe mode.
I know it takes a long time as I have to do it often. Just hang on and you will evenyually arrive in the 'Safe' mode.
