alright so I got a computer from this person used but was working properly (I got it for my mom) It was working fine for a few weeks but recently when it starts it gets to the bios memory check type area (before it even boots windows) and it freezes.... sometimes... any ideas what's wrong with it?

So some times it boots properly? If so, this could be loose connection some where. You might power down, and unplug the pop open the side of the case, touch bare metal to discharge any static in body and check all connections. Since it is stopping at RAM, you might pull the RAM modules and reseat them. This action will clean the contacts.

You might ask your mom if it ever did this before she gave it too you.

I tried that and it's going past the part it was at it however it has another issue. Every time i turn on the computer it starts in bios and announces "CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU" down the page it says "Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP" F1 loads the computer normally I'm just worried that it's going to turn into a problem, any suggestions?

That points to the CMOS battery on the motherboard. These are usually common CR2032 wafer batteries that can be found at most watch/camera/battery counters at your local discount department store (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.) or home improvement store for about $2. Power down the computer AND UNPLUG, then touch bare metal before removing the old battery. A strong thumbnail or very careful use of a small flat-tip screwdriver can be used to pry out the old. Verify the battery type before buying new. Do not touch the new battery with bare skin - skin oils promote corrosion and collect dust. I put a clean sock over my hand.

First boot with new battery will cause BIOS issues as pulling the battery for more than a few seconds resets the BIOS. That's okay. Go into the BIOS and reset date and time and make sure your HDs are recognized, then Save and Exit.
