Please help me.....

My laptop sudenly runs excessively slow. The CPU runs at 100% even though I am just using some really simple software and then it grinds to a halt...

These may have been an issue with a file called auto.exe that was in the immediate C:\. I was also running a programme that placed a large number of images in a buffer. Could it possible that this buffer still exists? Doubt it though.

I know it's pretty vague but I am presenting work for an exhibition tomorrow and have completely run out of ideas to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated.

What process is running the CPU? Check the Task Manager.
