Thanks for all the good sites. BTW I purchased a NEW HP w Vista. Very good deal. NOW, I must properly save my Fav, ad books, etc to put in HP. Do you have a 1,2,3, step simple guide for this process?
I will be doing the Vista backup from the new HP. (I always owned my own
Operating system discs.)
I do so appreciate your help and web site Thank you always![]()
Hi Avie. (Keep in mind that file locations/paths may be different in Vista.) I don't own or use Vista, but here's what I do for backing up things to a CD-R(W) from XP. Once "burned" to a CD-R(W), they can be copied back to the machine or to another machine.
(I don't know what "ad books" are, therefore they're not covered herein.)
I copy the user specific, not system common, files from;
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Desktop
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Cookies (if the user wants them)
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Favorites (if the user wants them)
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\My Documents
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{445BA***************************} \Microsoft\Outlook Express (*user*.dbx files if using MS Outlook Express)
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook (*user*.pst files if using MS Office Outlook)
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\Themes (if applicable)
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Recent (if they want it)
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\%_%_Users_name_%_%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
And any personal files which ~may~ have been saved to the root directory. ( C:\ )
