    No Audio Device but drivers are installed

    Hello,

    I have recently upgraded from Win 2000 to XP and now the sound card does not work on my LG laptop.

    In 2000 it worked fine. I have installed the correct Soundmax drivers for XP but going to Control Panel > Sound & Audio shows No Audio Device

    The Windows Audio Service is running fine and is set to auto.

    Any suggestions appreciated as I have tried many things and this is really driving me nuts.

    thanks

    If your sound device worked fine in 2000, then it must be one of three things;

    ensure the sound device is enabled in the bios

    ensure there are no yellow exclamation marks for the sound device in Device Manager

    ensure you have the proper drivers for your O/S, make and model of your machine

    Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

    Also post what is listed for your Motherboard and Chipset.

    Hello Dan,

    Thanks for taking the time to post.

    Laptop is the LG LS50a

    Details per the Everest app follows ;

    Audio Intel 82801DBM ICH4-M - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-1] PCI (IRQ 10)

    CPU Type Mobile Intel Pentium M 735, 1700 MHz (17 x 100)

    Motherboard Name LG LS50-CUXA

    Motherboard Chipset Intel Odem i855PM-333

    BIOS Type Phoenix (06/14/04)

    DAL hardware scan reports as follows ;

    Manufacturer Analog Devices, Inc.
    Description SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
    Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&SUBSYS_00051854&REV_03\3&61A AA01&0&FD

    I have installled since installed 2000 back onto a dual bot partition to confirm the sound still works fine under that which it does.

    thanks and regards
    Garth

    Start with a chipset setup. Unzip the contents of this zip file to an empty directory and run the SETUP. Restart the machine.

    Thanks Dan,

    Installed the file sent however no go I'm afraid.

    On installing I lost the wireless connection, but after a reboot it came back again.

    The audio still shows no device available.

    I tried doing a sound driver update just for the heck of it but is says the current driver is up to date.

    cheers

    Dan a question,

    Is it possible there is a registry screw up of some sort ? does anything in the registry affect the workings of the audio in its basic mode ?

    thanks

    Well, the registry contains everything about the system, but it's the drivers etc being installed which create/modify the registry entries.

    Try this driver package. Unzip to an empty folder and run SETUP;

    Morning Dan,

    No go I'm afraid. At the end of the install a dialog displays saying
    - Severe error. Driver not found cannot install.

    I had uninstalled the previous version of the Soundmax and then installed this one. I tried this install twice but the same error each time.

    cheers

    Sorry to be away. OK. This one's elusive. Here's another to try;

    Hi Dan,

    Thanks for the note. You bet, this is really annoying and elusive. BTW I am getting page not found on that link.

    I have spent many hours trying to figure this out and have the following for your thoughts.

    1)
    I have a yellow explamation mark against "plug and play software device enumerator" on the other XP OS that I installed on the same machine, this is working Ok. In reading around I get the impression this might be the influencing factor, but I cannot work out why this is not working.

    2)
    I have tried brining across swenun.sys and streamci.dll and also ks.dll but to no avail.

    I have checked the registry entries for these items between the two OS's but they look the same to me, apart from a few subtle differences such as OS A says

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E97D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0029]

    and the other says

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E97D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0011]

    but everything seems to match up Ok elsewise.

    cheers
    Garth
