hi i have a windows xp computer
i start it up and it brings up the windows log in page
username/ password
after that i cant do nothing to get it to load onto the desktop page
the mouse wont work and the keyboard wont work
ive tried starting in safe mode and starting from the last working settings
but nothing
if i can get into desktop i can system restore or at least do something
can you help
many thanks marie
before this happened the 3 things i was doing was upgrading to service pack 2 and then i was loading a game called zoo vet and then there was a power cut so the machine was turned off straight away

Are you saying there was a power outage during the installation of SP2?
What is the exact make and model of the computer?
-
the make is creative computer amd athlon processor
its 20gb 128mb
i accidently switched of the plug in the middle of loading sp2
so when it restarted it brought up just a black screen with the windows log in box i cant type in password or move the mouse
how can i get back in to the desktop
-
If we could find a web site for the computer manufacturer they might have tips but I cannot find much with just "creative"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...tive+computers
Did you get any Recovery disks with the computer?
-
no i didnt sorry
is there anyway i can get past the windows log in after that i can system restore
the fact that the keybard freezes and the mouse freezes doesnt help
oh i forgot to say the number lock button stays on aswell
any ideas purleezeeee im pulling my hair out
i dont want to get it wiped id rather avoid that
many thanks marie xx

Did you look at the link above to try and ID this computer further?
Did you try "Safe Mode: System Restore"?
Do you know how to enter the BIOS Setup?
Do the first screens on the bottom say anything like "Press Delete for Setup" or "Press F10 for Restore" or Press any key to do anything etc.?
Does the computer have a floppy drive?
-
oh sorry i did try to identify the computer further but without luck
i can get into safe mode but in safe mode it brings up the same screen but larger
there,s nothing at the bottom all there is, is the screen is black with the windows log in box in the middle and on user name it says demo and the cursor is flashing in the password box but the keys dont work and neither does the mouse
ive checked both and the work ok on other computers
havnt got a clue about the bios setup
and yep it does have a floppy
sorry to be a pain
-
user name it says demo
Was that your user name?
Have you tried just hitting Enter at that point?
When you first start your computer, before Windows ever does anything, do you see a screen from "Creative" or "Intel" or "AMD"?
If so are there no instructions at the bottom of the screen?
Just as a test re start your computer and constantly tap tap tap the Delete key. See what happens.
What was the original OS? XP SP1 or just XP? Home or Pro?
You can create the 6 floppy boot disks from here depending on your original version:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994
If we go this far, meaning none of the above work, we can try working through the Recovery Console but of course the keyboard must work.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
The best way to deal with the keyboard is via the BIOS so try the Delete thingy.
