    Won't Boot

    Hello,

My friend has a Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP and just recently, his computer has been unable to boot. The computer will begin to start, show the dell screen with the option to enter setup, then it will give a black screen with a cursor at the top left corner. It doesn't give any error messages, and just kinda freezes at this screen without going any further. On a rare occasion, his computer will boot. I have tried to enter setup, and it will not let me do that either. It just displays the black screen with the cursor and nothing else.

He has the MCafee antivirus package installed on his computer.

If it is under warranty contact Dell. Might as well try to contact them anyway.

The blinking cursor in general indicates no hard drive or bootable device is detected.

The XP Restore is explained here:
