So you installed a brand new hard drive?

Are you using the HP/Compaq CD or are you using a different CD?

i think i know what hardware failure i had but i need this confirmed.

i thought i had bad ram but thats not it when trying to recover a few weeks ago my monitor displayed rainbow colored in 1 line across the screen.

trying to boot of windows gave the same except the whole screen was covered .

so based on my previous topics could all this lead to video card failure causing these bsods?

by the way im starting to sneeze with all this dust in my pc can i use a can of air to clean inside?

Yes. Clean it out. Make sure the fans are working.

If you are installing a Retail version of XP on this HP/Compaq computer you will need a distinct Product Key associated with that CD.

You are removing all software connections to HP/Compaq by doing so.

You will want to get the HP/Compaq drivers onto a CD in the hopes that they will reinstall on the motherboard.

I couldnt believe that this didnt catch my eye. There is an orange buildup that is around these black things that look like batteries. i googled this they called capacitors. and same people have had same problems. so need some questions answerd.

where is the processor on motherboard.

how can i find out if i can use a mATX motherboard with my tower.

how do i find out find proper ammount of watts to use for a new power supply

    Leaking capacitors.

Just for a basic example the CPU is the large grey rectangle on this board:

Why use a micro ATX board in a tower? You limit your options while you do not need to. Micro ATX are made for small cases for that very reason (small).

Try this tool for PSU: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp

Micro ATX boards were made for desktop cases and mini towers.

They are simply a small form factor.

    Size is the main limitation.

For example even if a Micro ATX supported PCI_E graphics it would only take a very small (low profile) (low end) PCI_E card.

Also just makes it harder to work in a confined space if you have a choice and size is not a factor. But if you already have the parts and are not looking at high end gaming or graphics you should be OK with it.
