6 Unread Messages on Account Splash Screen

    Hi,
My son has no Outlook Express account on our shared computer but on his account log on screen password protected he has a message along side his picture tile stating he has 5...gone up today to 6 unread messages. This has been on for some time and I'd like to get rid of it as its annoying the hell outta me!

He uses WindowsLive Messenger a lot for instant messaging and has no clue where this inbox is pointing to read the unread.

Any Ideas? I have backed up a folder called contacts from his name docs and setting and deleted from the system but note still appears.

    Any help appreciated.

Here are some articles regarding this situation:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...welcome+screen

    And more here:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?sour...=1&sa=N&tab=wg

To reset the message count, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail

Look in the subkey for each e-mail account. The value you're looking is MessageCount

Double clickthe MessageCount entry and set the value to 0.

To disable this option completely visit my web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Win XP Fixes section. Follow the link for Disable/Enable Unread Message Count
