Skipping/stopping problems
I searched the forums for this problem, but mine appears to be different.
I've sought help from other forums and no one can tell me anything.
Here's what it does to the best i can explain:
During certain applications (I.E. Games, or graphic intense apps) the computer will periodically freeze, and the sound will keep going. Then it all stops and progresses as if the frame dropped to 1 frame per second, playing frame and sound bit by bit. Then it just suddenly starts up again and I can play normally, but it happens again usually after the same ammount of time, and it lasts just as long as the one before.
Here's what I have found it happens on:
the Halo Demo (on and offline)
IL2 Sturmovik (a flight simulator)
Red Alert 2 (on and offline)
Paint.net (a paint/photo editing program)
YouTube videos
Any and all online Flash games
Here's what I have tried to do to fix it:
Updated ALL the drivers, including graphics card.
Adjusted the graphic card to favor "Performence" versus "quality"
Lowered resolution on all the games, and their detail
Disk Clean up
DeFrag
Virus scans
Spyware scans
I've cleared countless unused programs and files.
End It All (ending all non-vital programs running, then started the game)
run games with and without internet connection running
If anyone can please help me. This problem has gone on for half a year now, and it is really starting to annoy me. If anyone has any ideas, or knows someplace to go to get it fixed, I would love to know.
My final idea here is to try a Factory System Restore, but I want to save that as a last resort.

I'm not going to post it in the spyware/adware sections because it's not a spyware/adware problem... I've established that already, i've run dozens of programs to search for any viral, spyware, or adware, but there's nothing.
I have 512 MB RAM, 256 stock, 256 added, it's SyncDRAM if that helps, but that isn't it, because i've run the same games prior to this problem, and nothing went wrong before....

you may have some mailware/spyware that's installed programmes on your machine that's not being picked up in virus scans.
it could be heat related.
how many processes are running?
