Major Problems After Reinstallation of XP

Hi. I recently re-installed Windows XP on my Gateway desktop which is roughly five or six years old being that it crashed a while back, and I've been having a few problems. And just incase it matters, I basically deleted everything, as the entire OS was corrupt. In short, I started fresh when I reinstalled XP.

The first major problem is that I can't get the screen resolution to go higher than the lowest setting. Believe it's 640x400 or something like that... It's the lowest setting really. It just wont let you switch that little bar for the resolution setting to the other side, whatsoever. Just stays exactly at the same setting.I went through the troubleshooting shpiel, and I don't think there's anything wrong with my drivers. As for my screen, I'm not sure. It says it's connected to the default screen, which technically would be correct, so...

Anyway, the second was the fact that I could not get a new network connection up and running. I tried creating one countless times, but each time it said there was one all ready made, and to try repairing it, but I never had, or have a working connection at this moment. So I have no idea how to get that up and running.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

for the resolution error- you need to install your graphics driver... do you have any driver disks for your PC?? If not, what is the make and model of your PC, motherboard or graphics card (if you have one)

same with the network, you need your network card driver, what is the make+model of your network card? (or motherboard if its onboard)
