BSOD Paradise
Hi I'm new here, and I'm hoping that you guys can help me out.
I am plauged by the bsod of late. I just upgraded my mobo from one with and AGP8x to a one with a PCI-E in order to take advantage of the faster Graphics Cards. Which meant that I needed to get a new card as well. So I've been having two errors, and after two repair re-installations and trying everything else I can think of I'm about fed up.
The first I think I've narrowed down to an IRQ conflict between my sound card and my on-board Ethernet connection. The option to change the IRQ is greyed out, is there a way to fix this?
The other problem I have absolutely no idea about. This one says it's a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA. It also says:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E(0x00000005, 0xBF802221, oxBA277970, 0x00000000)
Then all the standard BSOD stuff
*** win32k.sys - address BF802221 base at BF800000m Datestamp4110f7a
This is essentially the error message every time, copied down as best I can.
I have checked the Event Viewer logs and can't make heads or tales of it and the only place that kind of makes sense to me wants me to pay them to get the answer(naturally). I have gotten the debugging tools and such, but I don't know what it is that you might need out of the log file. So, yeah.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS It's not the RAM, I've checked it and I've replaced it, with RAM that I have also checked. It's fine.

Reason: Updated error information

Your error in general is Graphics and perhaps just the drivers.
Uninstall all Graphics drivers before installing new.
Also I would suggest a Full Clean Install of XP on a new motherboard.
-
Okay, thanks. I'll give that a shot and let you know what happens.
-
Okay, so I completely uninstalled all of the drivers and then re-installed them using the latest from the website. Wehn I restarted my puter as per the installation instructions, the moment it loaded up I got the BSOD, same one. SO I restarted again, naturally. I restarted and tested it out with Supreme Commander(since that's the most intensive game I have) and got an error in the game, then a BSOD a few minutes later. So, I'm guessing that I just might have bought a bad card?
Thanks for the help.

A bad card is always a possibility but again my first suggestion is a Clean Install of XP.
You said you did a "Repair Install". Being a Media Center version who is the OEM manufacturer?
What you want to be looking at is a "Destructive" install or a complete "Factory" reset of your Operating System.
If errors continue after this then you can start suspecting hardware failure.
-
Okay, I'll do that then...I'm not sure who the OEM manufacturer is. I put the thing together myself, so, I just bought a copy of Windows. How do I find out. And what's the difference between the installs? Like, what should I expect?

In general XP Media Center version is not on sale to the general public.
It was designed only to be pre-installed on manufactured machines.
That being said I don't know how the Setup of the Media Center differs from standard XP. A Clean Install of a standard version is described here:

Okay thanks.
PS If you're worried about the legitamacy of my copy of Windows, it is a legit copy, holo-cds and everything. I live in Hong Kong, you can buy anything "off the shelf". Though I did put my machine together myself, I admittedly didn't install Windows myself. I try and stay away from things like that...too much that can go wrong.

Okay, so I finally found some time to re-install everything. Clean windows install and everything. I've gotten the most up-to-date drivers for everything from the appropriate website where I can. I still get the error. I'm quite baffled with this one. Any more help woudl be appreciated.

Install the software linked in this post:

Then post full dump logs.
