Hi Folks,
I've been given a small utility (.exe file) on a CD but when I try to do anything with it, such as open it, run it, copy it, I get the following message:
"Access is denied. Windows is unable to access the device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
But it's just a file on a CD. Can't even copy it to the desktop.
Any ideas please?

It might be worth questioning the "giver" of the CD or try it on another computer. Perhaps the file on the CD is corrupt.

I've already tried another copy which I was sent by e-mail.
Still doesn't work, but both the original file on the CD and the e-mail versions work ok on my daughter's PC.
Only difference is that she is on XP Home and I'm on XP Pro, both with SP2 and all current updates.
Also, and I don't know if this might help, when I loaded the CD on my daughter's PC, the file shows up as a small picture icon, whereas on my PC it just shows up as a small blue square (like a DOS file)??
