just ripped a cd in media player and the only option is for wma conversion not mp3. am i missing something ??

what version of WMP are you using?

it should be Tools >> Options >> Rip Music

I'm on WMP 9, no problems with proper CDs but have had trouble in the past with some Sony CDs which do not actually contain .wav files.
So what CD are you trying to copy?
Is it a "real" cd or a Sony?
Have you tried any other CDs?
