    well thanks for the response
i visited the site and tried to do as told but when i open the gpedit.msc(general policy window) there is no response. my computer just goes into busy state and when i click on any options(as "administrative template" under the "user configuration") on the left the right window displays " no item to view" but the mouse pointer signals busy.
Moreover, i cannot even open the registry editor(regedit.exe/regedt32.exe) when i type in the "Run" window.
i also came to know that the "cmd " command also doesn't run so i can't go to command prompt

Did you buy this computer new or used? How old is it? It may need some repair in the Windows System Files. Some major files are probably missing. Scan for viruses to make sure your computer hasn't been infected with malware or a virus. I'd prefer AVG Antivirus to scan for viruses. If that doesn't work, try recovering your computer by using the recovery CDs or DVD that should have come with your computer (if it's relatively new). The only other option is to back up all your data, and reinstall Windows. Sorry.

    Please read this thread:

    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=32403

Then post a HijackThis log over in that section. Not here please.

They will have many ideas for you short of re-installing Windows.
