blah...what is up with this...drivers wont update even though they say they have...im getting annoyed now >.>
Think i will need to buy a new modem...and i dont even know if it will work...sigh
But atleast when i woke up today and had these problems i was clueless and was getting really worried that hardware was damaged...atleast now i know its to do with my modem...
...still dont really UNDERSTAND how the problem has came up but i guess the modem isnt compatible with certain hardware? am i right?
remember im still new to PC building etc and stuff like that :P ive never learned so much about pc building in my life over the past two weeks of buying and getting the right hardware...

I would either contact the machine builder or your ISP or both.
-
i will tomorrow...ill contact the machine builder about it..ill not bother with the ISP...
"please hold the line" cheesey music etc etc...there is no point lol
but the machine builder might be able to help...oh and if i bought this ADSL Ethernet modem would it work in my PC?
http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DSL-320T
my pc has a Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
EDIT: ALSO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR REPLIES...you have been very helpful and you just saved me from having the worst day of my life! :P

Ask your builder about the modem. Also many ISP's (at least US) require specific modems.
If you have an Ethernet card you should not need nor want USB.
This also assumes your motherboard LAN drivers were installed.

............No problem. Glad to at least try and help! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks, and i will tell you once its fixxed :P
one last question hehe. i noticed my Modem is a Cable Modem...is that maybe the reason when i stuck the Ethernet wires in the modem then into my pc it didnt work? but then again why would it have the ethernet port on it...hmmm
ill try get the Ethernet working so i can stop using the USB connected to it
-
You usually have a choice on the modem of USB or Ethernet.
Many older computers were not Ethernet ready.
But the Ethernet connection does need your motherboard LAN drivers.

well my modem has a USB and Ethernet port on the back of it, and my PC has USB ports (of course) and an Ethernet port on the back of it.
When i installed my pc drivers today i installed the Ethernet LAN driver or whatever its called aswell and this then gave me two Network connections.
One is the USB connection (called Local Area Connection) which is connected with Firewall and is Scientific Atlanta WebSTAR 100 & 200 series Cable Modem and there is now another network connection (since i installed the Ethernet driver) which is Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
But it says, Network cable unplugged...so i got my ethernet cable and took out the USB wire from the PC connected to the modem and plugged in the ethernet cable to the modem then to the PC, the green light shined on the wire connected to the PC and orange flashes...yet after about 30 seconds of it saying Aqquiring Network address it finally came up saying Limited or No connectivity.
I then tried to go on a website etc but nothing work...so i guess that doesnt work for some reason
Also when i removed the USB wire the Local Area Connection disappeared and the Realtek blaa blaa Ethernet was the only one left. (until i plugged back in the USB wire)
EDIT: im about to try delete my USB drivers with this other site instructions to install the new drivers properrly...although i need a blank CD and...i dont have any (embarrassed lol) would i be able to use my PSP? it acts as a disk drive when i plug it into my pc. the CD doesnt need to be Auto launched etc or anything like that, just needs a portable storage space

well eh...i got the Ethernet cable to work! my friend said i should try connecting it the other way round because his router sometimes does that aswell...
and it worked somehow lol :P but i dont know if it will still crash using Ethernet connection...
Time to go open up the game that caused it to crash pretty quickly in the first place! wish me luck!
ill be back soon with good or bad news :P
